"Hanakin" Means Happy Friday
It is April 22nd, 2022. Today is Friday! There is a Japanese word "Hanakin." This
was a popular word in the 1980's. "Hanakin" means happy Friday.
"Hanakin" is written as "花金" in Kanji.
- "花: Hana" means flower.
- "金: Kin" means Friday.*
*Correctlly, Friday is "金曜日: Kin you bi" in
Japanese.
"Hanakin" is short for "花の金曜日: Hana no
kin you bi."
In the 1980's, Japanese got five-day workweek system. So we
became able to enjoy Friday night without worrying about the next day, and
"Hanakin" became a popular word.
This word is obsolete now, and a lot of people younger than the thirties may haven't heard this word. But I like this word. It is because "Hanakin" is very short word but express Friday's night feelings of free. I still use this word now😁
By the way, today's snacks is "Kaki no
tane." It was 178 yen at a supermarket. "Kaki no tane" is tiny rice snack and
peanuts. This flavor is Ume & Shiso. I like it because I can eat rice
snack and peanuts alternately. "Kaki no tane" goes well with both green
tea and coffee. If you want to try it, you may be able to buy on Amazon.
